I have been writing, editing, peer-reviewing, and panel-scoring proposals for 25 years, but mostly as a principal investigator or project lead rather than as a consultant. In 2008, I decided to change hats. My strengths differ from those of many of the consultants listed in this PSGA resource, but perhaps they will prove interesting and useful to some of you looking for help.
My specialty has been large federal and state grant and contract proposals – particularly technical, multi-organization submittals for $200K-$50M. I am an engineer and PhD scientist by training, and I have worked in this capacity as a UW Professor and senior manager in biotechnology and the federal government (DOD, USDA).
I also understand the needs and pressures of the non-profit world having served as Executive VP of a 250-employee 501(c)(3) organization. I have been a resident of the Puget Sound region long enough (20 years) to know it is one of the finest places in the world to live, but I have also worked and volunteered in enough other locales to have a national and international outlook.
Apart from grant proposals, I enjoy brainstorming about organizational partnering and intellectual property. I have also developed formal solicitations and review processes. I enjoy creating white papers, prospectuses, and powerpoint presentations that speak in plain English to deliver the right message.
