2008 PSGA Institute

The PSGA Institute will provide training and mentoring in proposal writing to grassroots nonprofits. We're looking for six volunteers to serve as mentors to the participating organizations. We are also seeking volunteers to fill the positions of Institute Coordinator, Facilitator and Co-Facilitator.

As we teach, we learn.

With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world. - Dalai Lama

The 2008 PSGA Institute, sponsored by the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association, will provide training and one-on-one mentoring in grant proposal writing to select community nonprofits, at a nominal fee of $75 per organization. This session will run from June through November 2008, with training in June followed by mentor-mentee meetings as needed.

We are looking for PSGA volunteers to fill the positions of Institute Coordinator, Facilitator and co-Facilitator, and six mentors. The Coordinator will manage the activities of the Institute and will conduct cultural competency training or cause such to be conducted for mentors, organizationas and facilitators. The facilitator and co-facilitator will train the organizations in the basics of cultural competency and grant proposal preparation. Mentors will work with organizations over a period of six months to produce and submit a professional grant proposal.

PSGA recognizes the immeasurable value of the services to be rendered by those that volunteer for these important roles with the Institute. While we are unable to offer commensurate compensation, we do provide honoraria as follows: the coordinator will receive an honorarium in the amount of $1200, the facilitartor, co-facilitator and mentors will each receive honoraria in the amount of $600.

As with the 2007 Institute, six grassroots organizations, selected on the basis of need, will receive workshop instruction in grant writing plus mentoring by qualified grantwriters.

We are opening the process of selection of mentored organizations to all eligible organizations, including those at which PSGA members are employed. Selected community organizations will be limited to those that have the least access to resources. More specific criteria and application will be announced in a separate communication on the PSGA website.

We plan to select the six mentors, coordinator, and facilitators by the end of May so that we can begin the Institute in June.

If you have questions and or want to sign up, email or telephone John or Joyce (see below). Job descriptions and applications will be posted on the PSGA website and linked to this page. Last year there was competition for the Institute positions, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

We look forward to hearing from interested non-profit organizations as well.
