The Grantwriter's Toolbox: Panel and Working Session

Join us May 15th as we dig into “The Grantwriter’s Toolbox” with presentations and mentored working groups on some of our field’s most commonly used grants program tools.

After a brief overview, we will break-out into panelist-facilitated working groups to get feedback on our own organizational working tools.

Logic Models led by Manca Valum of Western Washington University, will show us how to use logic models to clarify outcomes, measure success, and make a clear case for financial support.

Grants Management Best Practices will highlight tools to coordinate all the details involved in grantseeking. Join Brittany Kirk of The Ostara Group, for a discussion of ways to turn your list of deadlines into a highly functioning project management system that identifies top priority prospects, projects future revenue, and equips you to track changes in your grants portfolio over time.

Bring your own work for feedback and advice from our panelists during the break-out session.

Meet our Speakers:

Manca Valum
is Senior Director of Advancement for Strategic Initiatives and Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for Western Washington University. A graduate of Western, Manca is a life-long, 4th generation, resident of the Pacific Northwest. Prior to joining Western’s University Advancement team as Director of Development for the Sciences in 2006, Ms. Valum enjoyed a successful development career working with two Whatcom County non-profit agencies. Her accomplishments include leading a successful capital campaign to design and build the local shelter for victims of domestic violence, the establishment and funding of two new institutes at Western, and the creation of the university’s corporate and foundation relations program. During her career Valum has been responsible for the development of both public and private grant proposals as well as being responsible for the oversight of awarded grants.

Brittany Kirk
is a grantwriter and nonprofit consultant, strategist, and capacity-builder. She is currently the Director of Grant Services and a Senior Consultant for The Ostara Group, a Seattle-based consulting firm whose grant service line has raised more than $17 million for small and mid-sized nonprofits throughout the Pacific Northwest over the past decade. Individually, Brittany has successfully raised public and private funding and supported more than 25 diverse organizations. In typical nonprofit fashion, she has worn all the hats: executive leadership, fundraising, programs, operations, and board member. She also holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Washington’s Evans School of Governance and Public Policy. Brittany has been a highly-rated presenter at events by the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association (PSGA) and Washington Nonprofits, and is a member of both PSGA and the national Grant Professionals Association (GPA).
